Someone posted this as a bulletin on MySpace. Does anyone know if it's true?

this is seriously retarded.
from blabbermouth:
Paula Hogan of MANIC Music & Distribution and Candlelight Records USA has contacted BLABBERMOUTH.NET to report that "eBay is [allegedly] currently starting a ban on black/extreme metal. A few of our vendors who have sizeable eBay stores are now finding their items pulled down by eBay directly. The list we have compiled so far that have been pulled for sale via any eBay stores or auctions is noted below. I'm sure there are more."
Added Dan Ferguson of Indianapolis, IN's Abyss Records: "I had a number of items removed and account suspended by selling black metal. It seems a group of so-called Christians have been reporting black metal bands (even though eBay has black metal as a search genre) as all racist and hateful and discriminatory."
The items that were allegedly removed by eBay because they "violated the eBay Hateful or Discriminatory policy" are as follows:
BURZUM - Complete 6 LP SET
EMPEROR - IX Equilibrium ORIG. LP
WOTANORDEN - From The.. CD
BURZUM - s/t / Aske DOUBLE LP
1349 - Beyond The CD
DARKTHRONE - Panzerfaust CD
MAYHEM - Collection 4 LP SET
PANTHEON - Krihapentswor CD
DARKTHRONE - Total Death CD
BURZUM - Draugen CD DVD
BURZUM - Daudi Baldrs LP
BURZUM - Daudi Baldrs CD
ZYKLON B - Blood Must Be Shed CD
ARMAGGEDON - Imperium CD
EMPEROR - Demo LP
1349 - Hellfire DOUBLE LP
DARKTHRONE - Hate Them CD
BURZUM - Filosofem DOUBLE LP
BURZUM - Hlidskjalf LP
BURZUM - Det Som Engang Var DIGI CD
CAMULOS / AINSHVAL - Split CD
BURZUM - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss LP
BURZUM - Det Som Engang Var LP
NOKTURNAL MORTUM - Weltanschauung CD
SATYRICON - Now, Diabolical CD
In eBay's e-mail to Ferguson explaining their decision to remove his listing, they write, "eBay doesn't permit sellers to list items that promote or glorify hatred, violence, or racial intolerance. Items that promote organizations with such views are also prohibited.
"eBay will judiciously disallow listings or items that promote or glorify hatred, violence or racial intolerance, or items that promote organizations (such as Nazis, neo-Nazis and Aryan Nation) with such views. This policy also applies to listings that offer shipping to countries where certain items may be illegal."

...and the link they've provided at the bottom doesn't seem to be right...

We all knew that I was going to have a say in this, right?
First of all, I’d like to clear up the fact that all this is pure rumour and also that I do not agree with a majority of comments that were left on the Blabbermouth website. As far as I know, those items listed are still available on Ebay – I think it was just one particular seller’s auction(s) that was removed. Maybe, like someone on Blabbermouth mentioned, they , might have had a huge swastika or something on their page – in which case, they really can’t be too surprised about the outcome.
The rest of this post is a reaction to IF this happens. For the sake of argument I’m going to imagine that Ebay has put a ban on Black Metal.
Not all Black Metal is racist, fascist, or even anti-religious and so it seems a tad unfair to ban an entire genre because of the beliefs and actions of a few bands. However, I will admit that a large amount of Black Metal is anti-religious. Does this mean it should be banned? I’d like to think that, for the most part, people’s beliefs are not based on a CD or swayed because of what some band thinks…. And, surely, everyone is entitled to an opinion? For example, I have a problem with organised religion. That doesn’t mean that I hate people because they follow one. It just means that I don’t think that religion and spiritualism should be under the control of a government (which, in effect, most modern religions are. I’m not talking about the Government as in Tony Blair – I’m talking about a government as in a body of people that take control). I think it should be more of a personal thing. Anyway, getting back to the subject in hand…
Personally, I feel Ebay are well within their rights to ban Nazi-sympathetic Black Metal – as to me this seems generate more hatred… especially with the political climate in the position it currently is. We just need to look to the UK to see this…. And to realise that the BNP is in a far stronger position than most of us are comfortable with. (Ebay also need to look into the sale of Nazi memorabilia as this is still easily available on the site.)
With that said, should any music be banned? Isn’t it a form of artistic expression? Many people on the Blabbermouth site said that Rap should be banned. I think this is a ridiculous idea as, yet again, we’re talking about a form of artistic expression. Who decides which genre is more important? At the end of the day, all it comes down to is a matter of taste. As for me, I like Black Metal and I like a little bit of Rap.
Also, if we’re going to ban music that may cause offence – what about films (eg “The Passion of The Christ” [especially considering the anti-Semitic rumours that recently surrounded Mel Gibson] or, if we’re being a bit silly, “Dawn Of The Dead” etc), what about art (I’m sure there’s plenty of paintings depicting war and/or religion), what about comedians (apparently if they’re being ‘ironic’ it’s ok)?
I’m going to go a little bit deeper here – Does music really affect our views on any particular subject? If I listen to Punk am I going to be an anarchist? If I listen to Death Metal will I savagely murder people and then leave excrement at the scene of the crime? If I listen to Rap will I shoot bitches and hos? If I listen to Black Metal will I become a Satanist? If I listen to random cheesy stuff will you build me up, Buttercup, just to let me down and mess me around… Of course not, that is insane!
A common view on the Blabbermouth site was that if they ban Black Metal, what next? Will they start banning other forms of Extreme Metal? While this is a possibility, it’s highly unlikely. Why? Money! For example, Deicide are a Satanist band (with the exception of Ralph Santolla – who is a Christian… but that’s really another post all together) and Glen Benton is pretty public with his beliefs… and it’s all over their artwork, song titles and lyrics. Will Ebay ban the sale of Deicide items through its site? Of course not, especially since Deicide have an album out at the moment which has shifted a considerable amount of copies. And what about Slayer?
The simple fact is that they’re not going to lose out on too much money if they ban Black Metal. The genre and ‘scene’ simply isn’t big enough and powerful enough to create that much of an impact.
I thought I’d end with a summary, or conclusion, of my thoughts on the subject. While I do not believe in or agree with the views of certain Black Metal bands, I do not think that any music should be banned. Ebay banning Black Metal will not stop hatred, it’s not even a start. That’s something the human race needs to work on as a whole. Ebay is not the saviour or the big baddy in all of this – it’s just a company. By all means, I think people should complain against the banning of Black Metal if the rumours are true… but I think it should be done for the right reasons.
…and, anyway, most of the neo-Nazi / strongly Anti-Christian bands and fans are meant to be ‘kvlt’ and ‘tr00’… they shouldn’t want their stuff to be sold on a big corporate site like Ebay anyway! lol
