Since there isn't a forum for "mathcore", and to be fair there isn't likely to be one in a hurry.... I think Sikth deserve more than a passing mention.
One of the best bands to come out of the UK for a long time. I first saw them in Portsmouth in 2003 at the Wedgewood Rooms and i bought the album and single the very next day!
Since then i've seen them a few times, and i think they're amazing.
It is the kind of music that takes some time to "get". I was just so struck by the live performance i got the album right away. Lots of time signature changes, different guitar parts being shared between the guitarists and assorted polyrhythms going on as well. Add to that Mikey (official loon and poet for the band) and it's a frantic ball of energy that simply cannot be stopped.
Anyway, what do other people think?

Didn't I see them with you at the Electric Ballroom once? Then there was that metal clubnite thing...
Everytime I go CD shopping I look at their new album and think about buying it... One day it will be done... _________________ No Sleep... 'til Bedtime!

Yeah, that was just after Dimebag died... and they played a Pantera cover. Rather a rushed job i think that one, and they were a guitarist short (one was to the side of the stage waving his arm around in a cast).
I bought their new album early enough to get a signed inlay with it. I think there were 5,000 in the UK and 10,000 in the US that were signed, but yeah. Great album! _________________

Throw em in with prog I say!
I know prog has other connotations now but it should mean progressive as in taking something to a new place and/or doing something different so yeah put em in prog I say (although I think you might not) _________________ www.myspace.com/eandnband |

Their hands must have hurt after signing those! _________________ No Sleep... 'til Bedtime!

I'd leave them out of prog myself, though i agree there's definitely elements of prog there.
Having said that, i wouldn't really know where to put them. I've heard "mathcore" as a definition, and even though it sounds like nonsense it does fit them well enough. I'm not a fan of stupid numbers of different genres... _________________

Genres! Don't get me started!! There's a name for everything these bloody days! Sikth have been called Hardcore, Spazzcore, Grindcore, Noisecore, even Emo....it's all just silly. Let the music give itself definition.
Be as general as poss I say, that way they'll be less bandwagons to jump on! _________________ "A moment can change everything" |

I have added a poll in this thread to help us decide. If more people think they should be in the prog section, I'll move them... If not, they stay here.
