Much like the post I made in the Death Metal forum...

What would you put on a CD to introduce people to the wonderful world of Death Metal?

Which bands? Which tracks? I think we're looking at around 18 tracks...

... I thought it could be interesting to try the same thing with other genres... and this time (yep, you guessed it) it's the turn of Progressive Metal.

Any suggestions?

Personally I reckon you'll like them. But the vocal may just take a while. I didn't like it at first but now they are the bollox. They kick seven shades of shite out Dragonforce!

I agree, Dream Theater are Damn cool! and check below for what I think of Dragonforce. It's something I posted on another board but I thought i'd share it with you's.

Mr ? says he calls Dragon Force cheese and I reply with the following-

I call them Sh*te! simply cos they're a one trick pony with no sense of dynamics. They can play though, just a shame they aint got the class of some other bands with such skills to throw in a curveball every now and then, like something that isn't 10,000 bpm or perhaps a song.

Schism - Tool
Ticks and Leaches - Tool
Parabola - Guess who!!

Also gotta have some King Crimson, Rush, Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd.... I don't know them well enough to suggest songs to be honest.

I'd probably put Nicodemus on this album as well... though they might also get onto a black metal album. No harm in that.
