Since all of the other bands in my Top 5 (Obituary, Nicodemus, Omnium Gatherum and GN'R) all have threads (or sections!) of their own, I thought it was time to write a little something about Vesperian Sorrow.
Even though Vesperian Sorrow are not pure Black Metal, I have put them in this section because they draw strongly from the genre... and, at a push, I'd imagine that this is the genre they would get grouped with. In actual fact the band are a bit of a hybrid of different musical types; including Black, Death, Symphonic...
Info from the VS website
Considered the premiere symphonic dark metal band in North America, Vesperian Sorrow's music evokes the darkest depths of searing human tragedy juxtaposed with soaring heights of orchestrated symphonic melody.
Their undeniable songwriting and passion sets them apart in their genre. In addition to two full-length albums released by Holland's Displeased Records, Vesperian Sorrow has been featured on two compilation albums. Since their inception in 1998, they have played shows and festivals in Germany, Canada, Mexico, and most of the states in the US.
Vesperian Sorrow are living proof of the spirit of Symphonic Metal, complimenting and challenging each genre their music touches with power and unfailing intensity.
