Gold DiggerFitting very much in "other genres" these guys play a brand of electro rock which personally i think is really rather cool. Great guys too, so that's a bonus. Anyway, this is what they say about themselves on their myspace:
| Quote: | Evolved through many years of electronic experimentation, hedonistic clubbing, live performances and moshpits - Gold Digger's music is a fusion of dark space-age funk and uplifting techno-rock. Powerful 4-part vocals, dirty electronica, chunky basslines, crunching guitar and thunderous live drums. Gold Digger mix the hands-in-the-air euphoria of a rave with the raw energy of a rock band.
Music from the hybrid soul of a 21st century metropolis.
Steve, Si and Rich first performed together in the seminal psychedelic funk rock group L'il Mole, which held together for a brief and glorious period in late 1999, before disintegrating in disarry and acrimony.
In the fall-out, Rich and Steve found themselves sheltering in the basement-studio of a seedy strip-joint on a rough housing estate. Learning the art of synthesis, and operating as the purely electronic project Optika, they quietly stockpiled an arsenal of extraordinary tunes. Often rolling into the studio at 9am, after a night's raving on the dance-floors of London's The Gallery, their musical output ranged from post-industrial techno to strange, bleepy electronica to epic space rock. Moments of dark euphoria.
2002: Staggering, blinking into the daylight having gone too far into the machinery, Ri and Steve re-connected with Si - who'd meantime been thumping his tubs and biding his time in several rock bands as one of the tightest and most flamboyant drummers on the circuit. Bringing his enormous beats and astounding rhythms to the table, Si slammed a new raw and dirty funk into the mix. Rock met the Techno and the thunderous groove that is now GOLD DIGGER began it's gestation period.
2004: Having initially unleashed, and lost control of, the monster that was to become Techno-Rock, the guys sought the aid of 'Mad Dog' Anton Howarth - an old axe-wielding University friend of Rich's. Suddenly, and with ease, the beast was tamed and GOLD DIGGER was brought - shimmering with energy and light - into being.
2006: Underground parties. Raucous concerts. Girls dancing on tables. Gangs of moshing hoodies. Blissed out club kids. Head-banging ex-punks. Grooving, long-haired stoners. Untimely arrests. Egos. Split ups. Breakdowns. Wonderful reunions. Babies. Moments of pure euphoria. It's been a wild ride so far.
THIS is Techno-Rock. NOW is the time. |
Their next gig is the rock garden on the 17th, but they're also playing the Cartoon on the 20th, and it's FREE!
